Tiny Controller Makes It Easy to Charge Large Capacitors
The LT3750 is a current-mode flyback controller optimized for charging large value capacitors to a user selected target voltage. This target voltage is set by the turns ratio of the flyback transformer and just two resistors in a simple, low voltage network, so there is no need to connect components to the high voltage output.

How can I lower the chance of burning out capacitors?
Spikes in excess of the capacitor voltage rating can cause damage to the insulating dielectric layer of the capacitor leading to internal shorts. High voltage problems should best be solved by finding the source of such spikes in the power system and taking steps to clamp spikes where they are generated.

The "open" condition is caused by a separation of the end-connection of the capacitor. This condition occurs more often with capacitors of low capacitance and a diameter of less …
Ceramic Capacitor FAQ and Application Guide
Charge the capacitors to the rated voltage. Discharge the capacitors for 5 - 10 seconds through a 5-ohm resistor. ... Since ESD sources (such as the human body) have a relatively low capacitance, the resulting charge Q1 will also be low. When the switch is ...
How to Charge High Voltage Capacitors
Capacitors are energy storage devices that have voltage ratings. High-voltage capacitors typically range from 25 volts (found in common home electronics) to thousands of volts (in specialized equipment used in communications.) The higher the voltage rating of a capacitor, the more charge it can hold. To charge a ...

As a general rule use a resistor to charge or discharge capacitors for a 20V supply 10ohms should do. It will charge in less than one second. If you could scavenge or buy a couple of more components say a mains to low voltage transformer and a bridge rectifier or four diodes you could make yourself a DC power supply.
5.19: Charging a Capacitor Through a Resistor
When the capacitor is fully charged, the current has dropped to zero, the potential difference across its plates is (V) (the EMF of the battery), and the energy stored in the …

What does the Voltage Rating on a Capacitor Mean?
For the capacitor to charge up to the desired voltage, the circuit designer must design the circuit specificially for the capacitor to charge up to that voltage. A capacitor may have a 50-volt rating but it will not charge up …
What Causes a Capacitor to Explode? Common Factors Leading to Capacitor …
Reverse polarity voltage and over-voltage are the two main factors that can make a capacitor explode. Compared to other types of capacitors, electrolytic capacitors are more likely to explode. In the following piece, we shall explore the primary factors contributing to the explode of capacitors.
